Hi there! I'm back again after a wonderful summer. Our days were mostly warm and sunny and the showers seemed to have come when we needed them. The flowers are just so lovely too, just a riot of colours. Thank you to George Milnthorp who looks after them in front of our tower.

Hopefully we will have a beautiful fall with all the lovely autumn colours, too.

Many of our tenants spent holidays away or had company visiting this summer.

Anne Loadis was glad to have her niece Valerie and her family with her three children from British Columbia visit her recently. They all stayed at the Tropical Inn and enjoyed the watersides. I'm sure you had a wonderful visit, Anne.

Edith Lockhart and her son from Glaslyn travelled to Ile a la Crosse to visit with her grandson and family. Hope you all had an enjoyable time, Edith.

Ida Baker went to Biggar July 1. All five of her sisters met at the home of one sister and all went out for supper and had a good visit. Then in the evening they met at the United Church to help celebrate their nephew’s sobriety. Ida stayed in Biggar until Saturday and had a nice visit with her brother. It sounds like you had a good time, Ida.

Shirley Tebay has had some lovely visits with her family this summer. Her grandson Brad and Kelly Tebay, Micah and Brooklyn travelled from Edmonton and took her out to dinner. Then her son Doug and Terri Tebay stopped for a brief visit on their way home to Dexiem, Alta. from a holiday trip to the United States.

Aug. 2, more than 20 family members met at Metinota at the home of Dennis and Juliete Tebay's for their annual deep fried fish supper.

The family then had a potluck for a delicious supper. They enjoyed spending a lovely warm day outside visiting. Also present were grandson Brodie and Sadie with their new baby Hanna Lynn. That would be special, Shirley.

Ann Ewanchuk keeps herself busy with being in charge of whist, making coffee two days, taking turns with others. She goes to the swimming pool off and on for exercises. She visits the River Heights Lodge where she has many friends living there. Her sister-in-law Lena Koliniak was very low last week, but with family visiting her she revived. Ann is happy for her friend who lived in her Tower II has now moved to the River Heights Lodge. Bernice Claughton won’t worry about her meals or housework.

Ann helped fill in envelopes at Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation for their cash lottery.

When the museum celebrated Those Were The Days, Carol Lendinson and Ann sat with the guest register in the thatched roof Ukrainian house. The had 150 signatures. One person was from Quebec and one from England, another from Serbia and a 10 or 12 year old from Ethiopia. She told them she was adopted and knows nothing of family.

Ann attended her the funeral of her children's school, Helen Alkier. It was nice to see old friends.

A memorable family reunion was held for the Ewanchuk, Iwanchuk families. There were 183 family members who attended. Everything was well organized. Many memories where shared. People from Ontario, Ft. St. John, B.C., Penticton, B.C, Edmonton, Alta., Calgary, Alta. and Vancouver, B.C. were present.

A friend, Peter Takaryk, has passed on. The funeral was officiated with Rev. Fr. Charles Baxter from Dundurn. It was nine years since Ann's husband Uhan Ewanchuk passed away Aug. 25, 2007.

Fae Derkach attended the wedding of her granddaughter Astryd Letrud to Cedric Handwerk at Sasbachwalden in the Black Forest of Germany July 18. The happy couple will reside in Gamsheim, France. It must have been a wonderful trip for you, Fae.

July 17th a shuffleboard tournament took place in the lounge with 14 players. Two teams tied for high score. They were Linda Ard and Muriel Tebay and Murray McCrimmon and various partners, as her partner was not able to be there. They shared high with 58 points. Second place went to Cecile Dupruis and Shirley Tebay. They had 57 points. Third place went to Stella Rendle and Ken Tucker with 49 points.

It was nice that they had four players from Meota. Always glad to have them. Everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck lunch. Everyone had a fun time.

Aug. 28, three tables of our tenants gathered in the lounge for Kaiser bingo. I think everyone enjoyed that. We each play 2 loonies for the evening. Then money is paid back to the winners. Gail Grant won five times, Phyllis Bec four times. Rose Marie Rolheiser three times and Nancy Milnthorp three times. Please excuse me if I missed someone as I wasn't there that evening. But I'm sure, win or lose, everyone was enjoying themselves.

We all enjoyed barbecued ribs recently. There were also salads, baked potatoes, vegetables and dessert. Everything was delicious. Thank you so much to all the ladies who cooked and baked and all those that helped in any way.

I did so enjoy my summer. My family came from Flin Flon, Man., Red Deer, Alta. and Saskatoon. We spent some time at Travessa Beach as well. There were such good times visiting and barbecuing tasty meals and celebrating my two granddaughters’, Jessica and Danielle, birthdays.

Welcome to all our newcomers. There have been quite a few moved in recently. Please join us for coffee down in the lounge.

Good luck to all the farmers. Hope the weather keeps nice so they can finish harvesting. Take care everyone. See you next month.
