Busy fall for Hillcrest members

Battleford Hillcrest Centre has been a busy place this fall. Al Reichert and Bob Paton were the instructors Nov. 14 and 15 for the 23 seniors who took part in the 55-Alive mature Driving Course, which is open to all seniors.

Al Reichert and Bob Paton were the instructors Nov. 14 and 15 for the 23 seniors who took part in the 55-Alive mature Driving Course, which is open to all seniors. This is the second one held at the centre, the previous one was in 2008.

At a Nov. 17 potluck supper, a get well card was signed for Minnie Plum, who is in hospital. A gift card was presented to Charlotte Muzyka by the president in appreciation for her janitorial services. She and her husband, Bill, are spending the winter in Arizona.

Entertainment at the potluck included two humorous readings - the Obituary of Commonsense and Advice to New Husbands - followed by musical selections by vocalists Joan Harrison on piano and Wilbert Basler on guitar.

The knitters have been busy getting ready for sales at the Co-op Mall Nov. 26 and Dec. 1. Items are mostly small articles suitable for Christmas gifs. Mittens that are not sold will be distributed to schools.

Few men come out some mornings to enjoy a game of pool and shuffleboard. Several play Kaiser every Thursday night with some coming from North Battleford. Cribbage continues to be popular on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings. A few also enjoy Scrabble on the second and fourth Monday afternoons. Meal Deals, a lunch of home made soup, sandwich, muffin and tea or coffee for $6 are now held on the fourth Friday of the month.

The horticulture society has been holding their monthly meetings in the centre of several years. The centre is frequently rented out for anniversaries and birthdays and just recently for a trade show. Booking can be arranged with Bev Tornberg at 937-3896.

A wellness clinic with foot care available is held the fourth Wednesday and a day before a few Battleford district members are entertained and served cheese and crackers for refreshments.

Approximately 20 singers entertained at the festival of trees Nov. 26 and Nov. 30 they will be providing entertainment at the Battlefords District Care Centre for their November birthday party. This will be hosted by the Battleford United Church ladies.

Gospel singing is on the second Sunday evening each month and hymn sing on the third Sunday evening. A new program, "Jam Session," is being initiated on the third Wednesday evening. Anyone playing a musical instrument is encouraged to attend. For more information contact president Roy Tornberg at 937-3896.

There are so many things available for seniors age 50 plus at our centre to enjoy and more seniors are always welcome. The regular meetings are on the second Tuesday afternoon of the month.
