A large crowd of people from far and near attended the 35th anniversary of Keranda, a business that has been successfully serving Maidstone and surrounding areas since 1980. June 10 a noon barbecue took place to celebrate the anniversary. Kevin Pike, the proprietor of Keranda, with support from his family, set up the business after having worked at a similar business in Lloydminster, and it has served the area well. Congratulations and thank you.
Sadly I report the death of Fred Pinder who passed away last week at the age of 82. Fred grew up in the Forest Bank district and attended school in the district as well. He was predeceased by his wife Marion (Hanson). They were married in Maidstone Anglican church and raised their family on the farm that was situated west of Forest Bank. Funeral service for Fred was held June 24 from Maidstone Legion Hall. Our sympathy is extended to all the members of Fred's family.
Another former Forest Bank resident, Thelma (Wesson) Clancy passed away June 20 at Sicamous, B.C. Thelma was the eldest in the family of Jim and Avis Wesson of this district. She attended Forest Bank School. She married Val Clancy. They lived in Alberta for many years, then moved to Sicamous. Thelma always enjoyed visiting family and friends here in the area where she was raised. To her husband Val and all family members, we wish to express our deepest sympathy.
Maureen Bexson spent a few days in the district visiting with her sister, Christine Pike. June 20, they travelled to Saskatoon where they attended the Speckle Park Cattle annual meeting.
Christine had been nursing a baby blackbird which she found abandoned in her yard. It had a voracious appetite. She quickly found out what she should be feeding it and fed it about every half hour for the whole week she had it. It became very content and spent time preening itself as birds do. When they travelled to Saskatoon, Christine took it to the bird sanctuary there. It is interesting to note that there is a bird sanctuary available.
