Bus driver retiring after 36 years behind the wheel

There were a few mistakes in the last news from the school. Jean Brehon has achieved 20 years of service with the Living Sky School division and Ben Stenerson received a 25-year service award. Also honoured that evening, was bus driver, George Casey.

George will be retiring at the end of June. He has been driving the school bus for 36 and a half years. He considers himself fortunate to have had a job that he enjoyed and took pride in doing for all those years. He is looking forward to spending more time with his wife and family, going places during the week without having to constantly check his watch, sleeping in sometimes, doing some woodworking and maybe even taking a holiday. The staff and students wishGeorge the very best inhis retirement. Thanks for all your great years of service.

A variety night/art show/drama night was held May 22. The performers in the talent show were Jocelyn Bzdel on the piano, Keeley Bzdel on the guitar, Jan Friesen on the piano and Logan did a singing and dancing number.

Students' artwork was displayed in the hallway. There was a nice variety of art selections. Mrs. Brehon was the MC for the evening.

There was definitely Trouble in Tumbleweed that evening. The play was full of old western humour and drama. There was a stagecoach driver, a sheriff and a hotel owner. Some of the characters were not totally honest and, like all good westerns, the hero won the girl in the end. The play was well done and you could tell the students and directors had spent hours in rehearsal. Mrs. Heather Cardin was the play's director and Cassidy Serhienko was the stage manager. A special thanks goes to Bernie Cardin for his help with the set and the staff who provided the delicious trifles for the evening. Also a big thank you to Kayla Gray and Tracylee Stinson for collecting the admission at the door.

The door prize winners were Bernie Bailey and Conner Garrett. They won pieces of artwork. Our thanks to Roxanne Jordan and Penni Wawryk for arranging the door prizes.

Next year's kindergarten class came on Monday for an orientation and a look at the school. They spent the morning with this year's kindergarten class. It was a very exciting day for them. Nine young and eager children came for a visit. This year's kindergarten class will be having their family visit when they graduate June 17.

The elementary students participated in a late Earth Day clean-up Friday. It was a beautiful afternoon and the elementary students worked hard to clean up the school yard. They collected several large bags of garbage and the yard should look very nice for this week's graduation.

It is nice to keep track of several of our former students. On June 6, Courtney Gray will receive her Bachelor of Nursing degree. She has a job in Saskatoon. Also graduating from the Uof S with a Bachelor of Education is Jessica Hiebert from Radisson. Kelsey Lovenuk has completed a dental assistant program in Regina. Morgan Ellis will receive her nursing degree from Medicine Hat. We also wish her brother, Ty Ellis, a speedy recovery after leg surgery. He was injured in a bull riding accident in the United States.

The staff and students would like to wish the 2014 graduating class a very safe and happy graduation this Friday. The exercises begin in the school gym at 7:30 p.m.
