2014, wow where did that time go. Happy New Year, everyone! Wishing you all much health and happiness.
Winter weather was predominant throughout Christmas. A bizarre snowstorm Dec. 23rd that started with snowflakes the size of snowballs and later turned to rain had highway workers busy doing clean up before Christmas. Then the warmth that came in Christmas Day, accompanied by wind, led to some more winter conditions on roadways. Dec. 27, in came another system that brought much snow and wind that caused travel advisories by the evening of Dec. 27. This system was followed by another drop in the deep freeze. Hang on folks; it looks like winter has a whole lot in store for us yet.
Following a plentiful month of community events and activities and all the fun and fellowship that Christmas season brings, we have turned over the calendar to start all over again.
Although it is a disappointment for Unity to not be included in the January Grey Cup tour, folks can head to Macklin, North Battleford or Kindersley to see the Grey Cup accompanied by several players making the tour.
A special shout out to my friends in Maidstone, Keith and Clare Paton ,who say they always read this column and to Jim and Janice Keller in North Battleford who passed on through my parents that they enjoy reading the news from Unity, too.
Congratulations to Michelle Schumack who won this year's Chamber of Commerce promotion "Bundle of Bucks" out of the hundreds of entries received. Congratulations to Dean and Paula Wildeman and family. Their brand new store, Wildeman Sports Excellence, opened Dec. 19 just in time for the last minute Christmas shoppers. It is terrific to have this kind of merchandise back in the community.
The 2014 grad class will be doing a bottle drive on Jan. 8 and 9 as part of their fundraising efforts. This is a good chance to get rid of those holiday recyclables and helping out a good cause. You can also bring your recyclables to Sarcan stating you want the proceeds to go towards the grad fundraising efforts.
Congratulations Midget A hockey who got to raise both their league and provincial championship banners on Dec. 21 home game.
