Display set up for the United Church of Canada 90th anniversary.

Borden United Church held a come and go complimentary tea in the Borden Seniors鈥 Centre June 10 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the United Church of Canada. On June 10, 1925, at 10:30 a.m., the Baptists, Methodists and Union Church signed an agreement and became the United Church of Canada.

All of the United churches across Canada were to ring bells 90 times to celebrate, but Borden Church decided to celebrate with the tea. A display table was set up showing how the United Church of Canada came to be, along with articles and photos of when the Borden Church building was 100 years old. Potted plants decorated the tables.

Winning the door prize of a hanging basket was Claudia Dyck.

The Borden Friendship Club held their June business meeting June 10 and then will have a break until the September meeting. There will be a potluck supper June 24 when the June and July birthdays will be recognized, then no supper until Aug. 29.

In conjunction with the Lions Club, Harold Empey will be invited to come in October to talk on 鈥淛ust in Case鈥 鈥 an information night on how to prepare for a person鈥檚 death. Any profit from selling the binder with all the information will be given to the two clubs.

A motion was made that any member of the Friendship Club may attend the Langham Dinner Theatre, using the proceeds from the bingo held last winter. The date picked to go was Nov. 15 for the 1 p.m. dinner and show. Most of the costs will be covered, but there may be a nominal charge depending on how many go.
