Borden School held its graduation ceremony June 7, with the banquet catered by the Borden Lions. Toasts at the banquet were given by Danika Pidwerbesky to the parents and coaches, to the bus drivers by Kody Munkholm, to the staff by Colton Thiessen, overall appreciation by Ovidio O鈥橳oole to Lions and Grade 11s. Brooke Brazeau was valedictorian. The Borden community Centre was decorated with silver stars, twisted black streamers and on one wall was a photo gallery. The north wall displayed the theme 鈥淎 Sweet Ending to a New Beginning鈥� in silver letters on a black background. MCs were Rachel Sutherland and Clayton Wiebe and, after O Canada, Principal Brody Morris introduced each grad as they entered the hall with their escorts and listed their achievements and what they planned for the future. Kody likes to act and sing, do karate and play soccer. Brooke was on SRC, did all sports, was in dance and is entering the nursing program. Ovidio was in sports, SRC and dance club and plans to take welding at Sask Polytech. Danika was in all sports, SRC, dance club, worked with K and Grade 1 students and plans to enter kinesiology. Colton was in track and field, does ranch roping, does volunteer work and plans to attend Lakeland Animal Science program. Brooke gave the valedictorian address citing new chapters in their lives, having learned valuable lessons at Borden that will help them in the future. She gave some lasting impressions of each of her classmates, who are all vastly different, but who have all worked together side by side. She thanked all the teachers, the secretary and all who have taught them. Guest speaker was past principal Mitch Luiten, who taught math and coached volleyball. Luiten spoke of life being full of surprises. He had a great time with all five grads, with each one bringing something special to class. Borden School will be in your veins wherever you go, what you have learned here will carry you in to the future, and help you have the courage to be what you want to be, wishing them all the best for the future. 2018 grads Rachel and Clayton gave some memories of the five grads from the years they attended school with them.聽 A slideshow presentation of photos of each grad from baby to graduation was followed by the handing out of diplomas by Mr. Morris. After a short interval to re-arrange chairs, grads and escorts entered again for the Rose ceremony. Each grad presented roses to family, then a dance and social time was held.
Crown Hill 4-H Beef Club members competed at the Saskatoon Prairieland Park 4-H regional show July 5 to 8. In team grooming on the 5th, the team of Abigail Roth and Justin Yasieniuk placed in the top eight in seniors. In judging on July 6 in seniors, Rachel Sutherland placed sixth overall and Colten Yasieniuk placed eighth overall, so they advance to provincial 4-H judging competition at Moosomin on Aug. 23 and 24. Other placings in senior judging were Courtney Yasieniuk ninth, Morgan Attrux 11th, Justin Yasieniuk 12th. In intermediate, Cheyanne Roth placed ninth and in juniors Zayne Letkeman placed 10th. In the Junior Showcase of Arts, in cloverbuds, Caybri Letkeman was the only entry, and she placed first in baked goods (cookies), photography-people, nature and other and second in crafts.聽 In the yearling heifer classes on July 7, Justin was fifth in Angus No. 1, Hannah Remus was fourth in Charlolais, Courtney was fifth in Simmental No. 1, Jessica Attrux was fifth in Simmental No. 2. In two-year-old purebred cow and calf, Rachel was eighth, and in two-year-old commercial cow-calf Justin Yasieniuk was third, Cheyanne Roth fourth and Hanna Remus fifth. In three-year-old cow/calf Courtney Yasieniuk placed first (only entry). Prize money in each class was first -$50 with $5 increments down to sixth to 10th place at $15. Most members will be showing and selling their steers on July 8.
