Borden Lions Report: Borden Lions are pleased to report that in our 31st year, our membership has increased to 18 members. We have had a successful year also in our catering, thanks to community support. Folks realize that when they use Borden Lions' catering the proceeds are used to support our village and wherever there are people in crisis. Our emphasis is on sight-related projects but many other causes receive our help as our members decide.

We are happy to sponsor Borden's annual Service of Remembrance, Mother's Day Brunch for Diabetes, the Carol Festival and Borden School Speak-off and Peace Poster contest.

The following donations were made recently: Borden Lions post-secondary scholarship, $500; Canadian Diabetes Association, $500; Borden volunteer fire services, $500; Borden 4-H Club, $500; Borden Care Home, $200; CNIB, $200; Borden Parks and Recreation, $200, local family house fire, $250; Borden Community Centre roof fund, $500; Lions Club Foundation Guide Dogs, $300; Borden Busy Bees Pre-school, $200; Lions District 5SKN Sight and Service, $500 (funds are available on application to local families needing help); and Lions Club International Foundation, $500 (Aid to international crisis and health programs).

The Radisson Zion Museum was presented with a cultural award by the Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation April 25 in Unity. Kirk Maxwell, Barb Cousins and Norm Heibert received the Museum of the Year award from Chairperson Ollie Marciniuk. Zion is a privately owned and operated museum in Radisson and the seniors' club had nominated them for this award.

Kirk, Norm and Barb bought the Zion United Church (built in 1905) several years ago when the church closed its doors and with a lot of hard work renovated the entire building, upstairs and down. Kirk, Norm and Barb all liked to collect antiques and believing that the building was part of the town's heritage and not wanting to see it demolished, they bought it to store their collections. They bought and renovated it with their own funds and do not receive any government funding, but do have a donation bucket at the door.

They have kept the sanctuary of the church as the main centrepiece, complete with pulpit and the minister, some pews, choir ladies, children and the same pictures. The former congregation donated many of the original artifacts that are now on display. Downstairs there are rooms you would have found in the original minister's manse along with a cafe and soda fountain. You can take a tour of the museum on line at radisson.sasktelwebhosting.com and visit the barber shop, general store, doctor's office and many more attractions. The museum is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from mi- May to September from 1 - 5 p.m. and by appointment at other times. Call Norm or Barb at 827-2117 or Kirk at 827-2203.
