Borden girls on national silver-medal winning VB team

Natalie Anderson, Rachel Sutherland and Danika Pidwerbesky from Borden School play club volleyball with Waldheim United.  May 20 to 23 they were in Calgary for National Club Volleyball. Waldheim was in Division 3 with 32 teams in pools of four. Saturday, the team lost two games 2-1 and the third one lost 2-0. Sunday they lost to Calgary 2-0, then beat Yukon 2-0 and won over Stars Red (British Columbia) 2-0.

The Waldheim United Club Volleyball team won the quarter finals in two sets against Leduc and won the semifinal game against Cochrane

In the gold medal game, Waldheim United lost 25-20 and 25-16 against Pack Mike from British Columbia, so they are bringing home the silver in Division 3, Tier 3 16U Girls’ National Club Volleyball.

Borden’s community garage sales are June 3 and 4 starting  at 9 a.m. and some are going until 5 p.m. Watch for balloons around town and on acreages. The farmers’ market is open Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. June 3’ the Borden Community Centre Preservation Committee are holding a ham and perogie supper in the centre along with a silent auction and 50/50 draw. Proceeds go for renovations to the community centre.

June 4 and 5 are Diefenbaker Daze at Borden with a parade at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by the museum opening at 12:30 p.m. with free cake and ice cream. There will be a classic car show from 1 to 4 p.m., slo-pitch all day, Kids’ Zone, steak supper at 6 p.m. and music for the younger set from 7 to 9 p.m. For the adults there is a Rink Shaker from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday the slo-pitch continues, as does the Kids’ Zone. There will be a firemen’s dunk tank, concession and beer gardens open both days.

Radisson Royal Purple No. 347 held their elections at their last meeting. Nominated as HRL is Roberta Harris, treasurer and immediate Past HRL is Tina Hessell, secretary and historian is Lorraine Olinyk, Loyal Lady is Linda Yuskiw, Associate Lady is Kay Shipowich and Chaplain/Conductress is Audrey Baker.

Radisson is celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2016 and to honour the occasion are having a cake and ice cream tea and program along with door prizes Wednesday, June 1 at 2 p.m. in Radisson Hall. There is no charge with everyone welcome.

Some of the ladies will be getting perfect attendance pins for attending meetings over the years and they are Audrey Baker and Linda Yuskiw - 17 years, Tina Hessell - 22 years, Roberta Harris - 28 years and Lorraine Olinyk - 40 years.
