The Borden Friendship Club held their potluck supper and celebrated Aug. birthdays Aug. 29, with 30 out to enjoy the evening. Blowing out the candles on the cake, brought by Ann and Don Brand, were Audrey Baker, Anne Kohut and Rueben Derksen. Special guests for the evening were Orville Middleton, owner of the Borden Bridge, and friend Anne Moore from Saskatoon.

Andrea Berry, the student who has been working at the museum for the summer, did a PowerPoint presentation on the building of the old bridge. May 24 was the 75th anniversary of the opening of the bridge, built in 1935-37. The photos had been provided by Lloyd Wall and the story written by David Neufeld. Prior to the bridge opening, in summer people crossed by ferry and in winter over the ice of the North Saskatchewan River. The cost to build was $322,000 and 13,000 tons of concrete were poured with 680 tons of steel and 4500 cubic yards of fill used. At the opening May 24, 1937, there were over 7,000 people in attendance. This first bridge was in use until 1985 when the new bridge was opened. The second one opened in 1995 to complete the twinning of Highway 16.

Twenty-two seniors from Borden travelled to Maymont Aug. 27 to enjoy entertainment and a cold plate supper with angel cakes, fruit and ice cream for dessert. Also in attendance were six from Radisson and ladies from the North Battleford Red Hat society. In total there were 58 for supper. This is the 39th year for the Maymont seniors' club and they have just had a new roof, door and windows installed on their centre.

Musical entertainment was provided by Mel Deagnon, Vern Hawkness, John Redekopp, Russ Fountain and Amber Butler on guitars; joining in for the second set with harmonica was Tom Caldwell and Bert Carpenter with clackers. Amber played and sang a song she had written while the rest of the singing was done by John, Russ and Mel. Master of ceremonies was Kay Greenslade who told a few stories and jokes along with Sara Beaudoin, Elsie Voegeli and a few more. All the guests received a door prize and winning $10 each on the dart throw were Ann Brand and Don Condon.

Radisson Royal Purple held their first meeting after the summer break Sept. 3, in the Radisson town office, with seven ladies present. Kay Shipowich was installed as associate lady as she was absent in June when others were installed. Happy Birthday was sung to Audrey Baker, the raffle was won by the Lodge and lunch was brought by Roberta Harris. Over the summer the sunshine committee had sent out 12 sympathy cards and 12 get well cards, and the ladies had made a profit of over $440 at the Radisson Fair ice cream booth.

The six-unit condominium being built on Idylwyld Street just on the western outskirts of Borden by Kris Bros. & Graham Construction is coming along nicely, after the many delays due to all the rain this year. The walls and rafters are all in place and the sheeting in of the roof will now start.
