The annual spring Scholastic Book Fair was held this week. Students have a chance to see what new books are for sale and look to see if there is a new book in their favourite series. Proceeds from the book fair are used to buy new books for the library.
Many students were busy on the weekend with extra-curricular activities. Brooke Ferris, Grade 7, is a member of the Saskatoon Comet Hurricanes Peewee AA Girls' team. On the weekend they captured the Provincial Peewee AA championship. This was the second year in a row that Brooke and her team have captured the title. This week they will play for the city championship.
Tyson, Kimberly and Allison Wawryk participated in the Sask. Cup skiing finals on the weekend. Tyson and Allison brought home bronze medals and Kim finished a very respectable fifth. Allison also received a trophy for finishing in third place overall in the under 12 group for the entire season.
Meghan Brehon, Sarah Davidson, Jenna Fouhy, Audrey Friesen, Conner Garrett, Michelle Garrett, Kayla Gray, Taylor Gray, Kassidy Menzies and Cassidy Serhienko were privileged to participate in the Dancers Who Care Fundraiser for Battlefords Trade and Education Centre March 12 at the Don Ross Center in North Battleford. Our students did a wonderful job representing the school and the Maymont Dance Club.
Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi is the approximation of the ratio of the circumference of a circle (the distance around) and the diameter (the distance across). The importance of pi has been known for thousands of years and was used by the ancients, including Egyptians and Babylonians.
Pi Day is observed March 14 because it is the third month and the 14th day which represents the first three digits of π (3.14...).
Maymont Central School's Grade 9-12 celebrated with pi related treats and a relay race involving a pie eating contest and other circular activities.
Student-led conferences were held Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m. These conferences are an opportunity for students to showcase their work and demonstrate their learning with their families. These are a change from the parent-teacher interviews, because students lead the conference and can demonstrate what they are doing and learning at school.
Thursday was green day at school. Students and staff were invited to wear green clothing for the day.
Safe travel to Mrs. Thompson and students as they tour Switzerland and Italy, making memories to last a lifetime.
