The graduates of Blaine Lake Composite School made a group decision to use some of the remaining money raised for graduation decorations to leave a growing legacy within the community.

Eight flowering tree varieties were selected and purchased from a tree nursery in Martensville for the project, under the direction of teacher Chrissy Sutherland. The varieties of small shade trees and shrubs included lilacs, ninebark, dogwood and Thunderchild flowering crab apple.

"We wanted to plant some trees to leave a growing legacy," commented Grade 12 student Hannah Dicus. "The area will also serve as an outdoor classroom."

The students are leaving a versatile and colourful legacy that transcends them and cements their contribution to the growth of their school and community.

"What a wonderful legacy that these young men and women have left not only to themselves but to the entire community," commented Blaine Lake Communities in Bloom member Kitty Larson. "We offer our congratulations to the 2013 graduating students of BLCS and thank them for their thoughtfulness."
