Birthday parties at Valleyview Tower I

Spring seems slow in coming this year, but there are signs which are encouraging. A ground squirrel was spotted scurrying across the street recently. Karen Taylor overheard a flock of crows gossiping in a nearby tree.

On March 19 Dorreen Svare, Sophie Nykiforuk, Joyce Milnthorp and Betty Moore attended the Spring Fling Concert held at the Western Development Museum. The music was very much enjoyed.

Cold weather did not deter Audrey Knight's daughter Sheila Sellars, from Whitehorse, Yukon, and a granddaughter from Calgary, Alberta, from coming to spend a few priceless days with her.

March 19 was a good day to hold a pool tournament for the ladies. Eight teams took part in the fun. Winning in each event were: A, Karen Taylor and Betty Moore; B, Lillian Leduc and Dorreen Svare; C, Madeleine Blouin and Amelie Murray.

March 12 was a truly enjoyable day for us as we gathered in the lounge to help Velma Wouters celebrate her birthday. Among her guests were her sister Carrie Fisher from Edmonton, children including son Wayne from Ottawa, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends from the community where she had lived.

Heartfelt sympathy to Lois Sherwood in the loss of her mother.

Likewise to Winnie Collins in the loss of her brother.

The birthday party to honour all March celebrants was held on March 16. The Keeping It Country band provided country and western music for listening and dancing. A birthday cake, decorated with shamrocks and served with ice cream made a colourful and tasty repast. Happy Birthday to Ken Elliott, Esther Dawson, Sophie Parkinson, Doug Smith, Velma Wouters, Laura Ireland, Les Wall, Carl Schell, Peter Litchfield and Raymond Ouellette.

It is good to see Mary Zawada and Gabielle Beloin home from the hospital. May they soon be feeling better.

March ended with two days of fun, as we partook in a shuffleboard tournament. Muriel Johnson, Karen Taylor and others aided Dorreen Svare in making delicious soups and sandwiches. Referees were Sophie Nykiforuk and Phyllis Maloney. Alice Horn took care of the score sheet. Winners of the events were: A, Dorree Svare and Karen Taylor, second, Sophie Nykiforuk and Calvin Wall; B, Lydia Litchfield and Olga Gresiuk, second, Phyllis Maloney and Ken Elliott; C, Ken Gagne and Amelie Murray, second, Winnie Hamm and Eva Stevenot; D, Alice Horn and Lise Watch; second, Peter Mykytuk and Muriel Johnson.
