Birthday celebration draws a crowd

MAIDSTONE — Bingo was played Sept. 23 at the Maidstone Drop In Centre with Jean Smith and Margaret MacEachern doing the calling.  Lunch was provided by Dorothy Harmel, assisted by Bev Stewart.

Sept. 26 more than 90 seniors, relatives and friends attended a come and go tea for Mae Hinde's 80th birthday. A family supper followed the tea.

Cribbage was played Sept. 28 with a better turnout. High score went to Dorothy Kissick and low to Bev Stewart. Lunch was provided by Dorothy Schwartz.

Bingo was played Sept. 30 with Joan Smith and Margaret MacEachern doing the calling. The loonie pot was divided between Bev Stewart, Molly Den Ouden and Denise Newton. Lunch was provided by Irene Kerr and Viola Mitchell.

The monthly meeting was held Sept. 5 with Cheryl MacAskill presiding. The August, September and October birthday potluck will be held at noon Oct. 21 with bingo to follow.

Advance poll for the federal election will be held at the centre from Oct. 9 to 12 from noon until 8 p.m. Election day voting is from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The upcoming Christmas supper was discussed at length. The tentative date is Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. The next monthly meeting will be held Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.
