'Big Things' coming to the gallery

The 2011 version of the North Battleford Sculpture Symposium is bigger and better than ever with new artists and new locations. "Big Things" starts on Monday, Aug. 15 with projects and workshops running throughout the week. Friday, Aug.

The 2011 version of the North Battleford Sculpture Symposium is bigger and better than ever with new artists and new locations.

"Big Things" starts on Monday, Aug. 15 with projects and workshops running throughout the week.

Friday, Aug. 19 there is a listening party for Betty Malaise and the Mushroom Souper. Local artists Joel Carignan and Brandi Rector will feature their new album, In Church. This free event will be at the Chapel Gallery from 6 to 10 p.m.

Visitors can take part in free project presentations. Tyler Brett will be working from Monday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at an auto wrecking yard just behind Grit Industries. Michael Farnan will be working on a film shoot at the Western Development Museum Thursday and Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oriol Dancer will be working on a Gratitude Labyrinth Monday through Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., in the park behind the Allen Sapp Gallery.

Budding artists can also take part in workshops: Tyler Brett will have a Friday workshop, "New Uses for Old." Registration fee is $15. Jay Kimball's "Community Clay Bread Oven" workshop runs Monday through Thursday on the Chapel Gallery grounds. Registration fee is $80. Karlie King will have a Friday workshop, "Subirdia," from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Chapel Gallery grounds. Registration fee is $15.

Saturday's panel of presentations and discussions will be featured in next week's column.

For more information or to register for a workshop please contact the gallery at 445-1757. The Chapel Gallery is located at 891 - 99th St. and is open from 1 to 5 p.m., daily. Support for the gallery is provided by the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the City of North Battleford.
