Big blow shuts down area highways

Well it has been a week of snow and blow! It has been a few years since the highways to Spiritwood and to North Battleford have both been closed. The brunt of the storm was on March 20 and continued March 21.

Well it has been a week of snow and blow! It has been a few years since the highways to Spiritwood and to North Battleford have both been closed. The brunt of the storm was on March 20 and continued March 21. The Spiritwood section opened March 21 and the North Battleford section March 22. Thankfully the power stayed on.

Yep, it must be spring. Some of the snowbirds have arrived back safe and sound. Jake and Cecilia Krahn, Dave and Nancy Penley, as well as Al and Jan Richter and Don and Ardes Petersen raced the crows and got here first. More recently Duane and Jean Massett have rolled in. It is always a good thing we have some snow around for Duane as he misses it in Arizona.

The Rabbit Lake library has been active this winter with Kids' Art Club taught by Donna German. For adults there were machine quilting classes taught by L. Morrison. They meet through the winter months on designated evenings.

The adult book club meets the last Tuesday every month, taking a break for the summer. They are enjoying the use of the book club bag from Lakeland Library headquarters.

The community sends its condolences to Margaret and Dave Siegel and family and to the whole Hepp family on the passing of Mrs. Ruth Hepp March 18. Our thoughts go out to the Konopelski family. Sam Konopelski passed away March 26. His funeral was in Rabbit Lake March 29.

In like fashion we express our sympathy to Hermine Balazsi and her family on the passing of her sister, Olga Peters, and to Shirley and Greg McKenzie and families on the passing of Shirley's father, Ben Rookes. We also think of the Adamus families of the Mayfair district on the passing of Edward Adamus.

Get well wishes go out to Stan Moore who wound up the loser in a wrestle with an uncooperative cow.

At the annual general meeting held March 13, Naomi Unger stepped down after six years as chairperson of the Rabbit Lake Library Board. Donna German was voted in as the new chairperson. Joining Donna on the board are Marg Penner, Joan Dzialo, Norma Sherman, Naomi Unger and Nicole McNabb.

The monthly potluck supper for the Rabbit Lake seniors was held March 21. Twenty people came and enjoyed a good meal, followed by some entertainment arranged by Cornie Martens.

The Rabbit Lake Recreation Centre held its windup for the 2012-13 season, March 26. Everyone enjoyed the burgers, bunnock, 50/50 draw, cakewalk and door prizes. Thank you goes out to the Rabbit Lake Rec Centre board for providing a community gathering spot and for the recreation over the winter.

Easter has been a very busy time with people home for the holidays. The annual Rabbit Lake Easter supper, sponsored by the Rabbit Lake Community Hall board was very well attended. Chrissy Moore and her crew did a great job of organizing the ham and scalloped potatoes. Unfortunately it fell on the same night as the Mayfair Wildlife Fish Fry and some of us would have liked to attend both events. From reports the Mayfair supper was very well attended as well.

Easter Sunday morning there was a community church service at the hall. The service was well attended and the lunch and fellowship following much enjoyed. A big thank you for the additional music provided by Marlene, Laurie, Makayla and Shaun Martens.
