The bidding has begun – and is building up to a live auction in December.
This year’s Festival of Wreaths begins with a silent auction at the Humboldt and District Gallery. Bidding opened on Nov. 15 and will go until the live festival auction on Dec. 6.
The event is hosted by the Friends of the Museum and Gallery.
“It’s one of the big fundraisers that the friends do every year,” said Jean Price, the museum’s supervisor.
Money raised goes towards community programming like the concert series and summer programs.
“All of the money raised here goes back into the community through those programs.”
All 109 items have been donated by local individuals and business.
“We have several items held back for the festival auction event. The auctioneers come in, it’s tons of fun, it’s a really good evening,” Price said. “It’s a really good atmosphere and its a nice way to end the Festival of Wreaths.”
For those who like wine, jingle bottles are also making a return.
“You buy a number for $20 and put it on the bottle,” Price said. “On the night of the auction, you get to take your bottle of wine home and find out what you’ve got.”
Some of the wine is expensive and comes from outside the province.
The Festival of Wreaths is at the Humboldt and District Gallery from Nov. 15 to Dec. 6, which will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 pm to 5 pm. On Thursdays, the gallery will be open from 12 pm to 8 pm. The festival auction will be at the same place on Dec. 6 starting at 7 pm.
