Oct. 2, members of the Rivers' Edge Quilt Guild met at the Don Ross craft room at 1 p.m. for their monthly meeting. The meeting gives the members an opportunity to display monthly projects, share ideas and learn new things.

That morning members brought out their extra and unwanted material from their stashes. This was a great time to go shopping for the next project.

An ongoing project is the making of comfort quilts and pillows. The materials have been donated and the members use them to produce these items. It also provides an opportunity to try different patterns and techniques as seen in the variety of quilts displayed at the show and tell after the meeting.

Looking back at September the paper piecing class was a great success. The class offered two different projects, a boat or a birdhouse.

Each year volunteer guild members cut the fabric strips that make up the kits for the home economics students at John Paul II. Each student picks the material for their kit. After sewing, the finished project is a beautiful log cabin quilt. It is amazing how the same pattern made with different colors turns out such beautiful quilts. I hope I get an invitation to see all the results when they are displayed.

Coming up in October there will be a class on a "disappearing pin wheel," a block done in two contrasting colors. The making of pillowcases and how to do a potholder are also on the agenda. The end of the month will also have a class on hand quilting.

The guild invites guests and prospective members to attend our meetings. Meetings are held the first Friday of every month at 1 p.m. at the Don Ross craft room. For further information, please contact Carol at 306-445-4352 or Barb at 306-445-0486.
