Basketball season wraps up

Basketball season has concluded. Both senior teams lost their first game at the conference playoffs and were eliminated. They had great seasons and improved their skills tremendously.

Basketball season has concluded. Both senior teams lost their first game at the conference playoffs and were eliminated. They had great seasons and improved their skills tremendously. Thanks to Jill Lindquist from Borden for spending so much of her time helping to coach the girls.

Mrs. Heather Cardin and the students in her PAA class have started cooking on Wednesday afternoons. This week they made scalloped potatoes, cracked wheat salad, quinoa salad and tabbouleh, which is a Middle Eastern salad made with bulgur, parsley, onion, mint, lemon juice, oil and other spices. At the end of the day, the items could be purchased.

Elementary students are in the second part of the book, The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. A trivia winner is chosen every day from each classroom, so three students receive prizes. They get to chose their prize from the selection in a large box.聽

Friday, they made "scrappy caps.鈥 These hats were introduced in Part 2 of the book and are a covering worn on the head that is sympathetic to the brain's impulses and desires. The children in the book need a hat to travel to Whangdoodleland and return successfully. There were some interesting creations.聽

The senior badminton players hosted Hafford March 16 for exhibition games. There were birdies flying everywhere!

Also March 16, Mr. Nickell took a group of students to participate in survival skills. This is part of the physical education curriculum. They went into the bush and learned how to make fire. They all returned, so they must have survived.

Friday was green day in recognition of St. Patrick's Day. Many students and staff members wore something green to participate in the day.

Pi Day was the same day as our ski trip. Therefore, Mrs. Walker moved her annual Pi Day activities to Friday. Students entered in teams of seven. Each team had to chose a different member to complete each task. The tasks were: running three laps, around the gym, one maze circle, four math problems, one hula hoop tossed, five basketball shots and nine circle bat spins. The winning team received a Pi related food.

Many staff members have been attending division writing inservices. The focus of these workshops is examining students' writing across the division and trying new strategies for improvement.

Writing was also the focus of Monday's professional development day held at the school. Staff members worked in groups to collaboratively score writing pieces from each grade.

聽Mrs. Jackson is working with a group of drama students and is planning a drama night for sometime in April. A date has not been finalized, but we will keep you posted.
