MELFORT — The Northern Lights Gallery Back Alley Art Tour returns this year, showcasing art talent in the area that ranges in public awareness from “unknown” to “world renowned”.
“People can expect bigger and better than what we had last year,” said Sandra Dancey, the tour’s organizer. “It’s growing every year, there are more artists participating, there are a wider range of talents included, there are still workshops. There is a little bit of everything.”
Dancey said there will be painting, drawing, caricature art, and wood carving.
“[There will be] lots of locals, a few from Saskatoon – it’s growing,” she said.
Artists and organizations that will be present at this year’s tour include Al Jardine, Jim Mason, Sharon Walker, Penny Lane Pottery, Corinne’s Caprines, Beth Bentz, Dawn Rogal, Maggie Tosh, Broad Leaf Media, Terry O’Flanagan, Pat Davidson, Grace Kruger, Uffe Vors, Carla Tyacke, Jade Lauren, Sweet Pea, the Melfort Museum, Ron Davidson, 12th City Artist Collective, Linsey Levendall, Claire Essentials, Elvin’s Creative Carvings and Nadine Hoffman.
Pat Davidson is a Saskatoon caricature artist who worked at DC Comics.
Dancey said the purpose of the event is to increase awareness about the art talent in the community.
“They should come out and appreciate the wide range of really talented artists we have in this part of the province, because it’s not just about Melfort, it’s about the whole area. They can come out and see what there is available.”
Barbeque ribs will be served at the Melfort Legion during this event, and the North East SPCA will sell hotdogs.
The event runs from 4 pm to 8 pm on July 18 in the back alley behind the Northern Lights Gallery, located on Melfort’s Main Street.
