As part of TD Canadian Children's Book Week, students at BATC schools from Ahtakakoop, Moosoomin, Red Pheasant, Saulteaux and Sweetgrass attended a reading by children's book author Vikki VanSickle.

At the Chapel Gallery Monday morning, VanSickle gave a speech describing her experience with the world of publishing, her novels and her inspiration to write.

She also demonstrated exercises she used for motivation when she is stuck, VanSickle brought two backpacks filled with objects and had students guess about the characters who would own them. Students then hypothesized about the two characters. Would they like each other? Would they ever meet? The presentation was concluded with book give-aways to lucky students.

The author of Love is a Four-Letter Word and Words That Start With B, VanSickle also gave a public reading at the North Battleford Public Library Tuesday as part of Book Week.

A total of 116 readings by 28 authors and illustrators were performed across Canada during Book Week. Craft book author Judy Ann Sadler was also on tour in southern Saskatchewan. For more information on Book Week, visit www.bookweek.ca
