This is the plow that is used in fields in the Taber area of southern Alberta. It used to plow under the frozen pumpkin crop. It is composed of two sets of plow shares. The design enables the operator to plow back and forth rather than around and around, a field. On reaching the headland, levers swing the one set of shares up and the other set down. It is fascinating to watch and I expect a pleasure to operate.

This book has Canadian history and was published in Victoria. She is now working on a sequel to this book. Door prize winner was Lou Tait - a Lakeland Library T-shirt. Juvenile winners were Brad Dyck, Mikayla Wisner, Dimitra Wisner and Gracie Kalin-Shury.

For the open house and author reading only one of eight board members attended and only four ladies from the community took one hour out of their day to come and support the library. Everything at the library is free, what a good deal, but we need continued support of the community. So do come in and get a library card if you don't have one, and then make use of it. If we don't use our library we will lose it.

Library stats for August 2014 was up 68.42 per cent and for September was up 42.47 per cent. This is very good for summer circulation, which is the busiest time at the library. The library conference was on Oct. 20 in North Battleford, with good representation from all regions, including Meota. There are 32 branches in Lakeland region and many new faces attended so hopefully some new ideas and enthusiasm will be around the communities. The hours for our library will be cut by one hour a week in January. This hour will be the two half hours of 8 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Northern news, Ken Parker is over in Beijing, China visiting for two weeks. He flew in a new 777 with 311 seats and the flight was smooth and lovely. The smog is not as bad as usual right now but he says he could still smell and taste the crud. The traffic though has gotten even worse. It took three hours to get from the airport to the hotel. No way would he consider renting a car and driving. Traffic is stop and go, stop and go, a few feet at a time.

Josie Reed of Chitek and Saskatoon, has returned home after a month in Hawaii, now ready to settle in for winter.

The Belbutte community held their fall supper on Saturday, and it was another great success. The community turned out to support the ladies' club and donations of food were put into a basket and drawn for. Alwin Millar was the lucky winner of this basket and Donna Long was the winner of the 50/50 pot. There were some items of baking that were sold, too. About 65 folks enjoyed a tasty meal and fellowship, together. Doreen Baynes attended as she was home from Rabbit Lake Rose Gill Lodge where she is spending time now. When people went outside to go home, they found the countryside engulfed in heavy fog. This made for some careful driving to arrive safely.

Condolences go out to the family of Jean Hansen, formerly of Bapaume, later of Rabbit Lake Lodge, who passed away Nov. 3, with cancer.

The walls and roof are up on the new shower and washrooms building at the park and it is looking right smart.

A drive to Edam last week showed even more farm land being disrupted from growing food to the interests of the oil companies and their development. There must be about 30 cars parked at the plant headquarters at Cavalier and the men are transported to their job sites by school buses. Trailers at the campground in Edam are being skirted in for winter warmth.

The Meota Lions entertained at the Edam lodge in the afternoon of Oct. 28, dressed in their Halloween costumes. Everyone enjoyed the old familiar tunes. Some sang along with them, and most had toes tapping. They were served a tasty lunch after as they visited with one another. It was nice to see Frank Poole making good progress following his hip surgery this fall and using a walker.

The turnout of kids on Halloween was pretty disappointing for residents who enjoy seeing them and had prepared for lots. Less than a dozen showed up at most homes, while at Edam they had over 100 kids come to the hospital for treats.
