August heat enhances summer sizzle event

The fifth annual Hafford Summer Sizzle was once again a success due to the efforts of the organizing committee and many volunteers. The day began with a pancake breakfast followed by a parade.

The fifth annual Hafford Summer Sizzle was once again a success due to the efforts of the organizing committee and many volunteers. The day began with a pancake breakfast followed by a parade.

Over 20 vendors set up along Main Street to share their wares. Carol Kingswell of Rosetown travelled to Hafford to offer her selection of sewn fabric products. Margaret's Concession booth offered traditional carnival items such as popcorn, cotton candy and nachos. Joe Luchka continues to inspire many as he creates a large selection of items using his scroll saw. Items from Halloween and Christmas decorations to clocks and rustic patterns were a hit with many passersby.

R&E crafts of Saskatoon offered a unique selection of jewelry created from silver plated spoons and forks. It was absolutely amazing to see the versatility of such items and the creativity of the artists.

Anne and Arnold Blixrod of Battleford displayed a variety of uniquely designed and decorated birdhouses and yard and garden items.

Ann Kostiuk and Marybelle Pshebylo, originally from the Hafford area, offered an assortment of hand knitted items from socks and scarves to baby and lap blankets.

Denise Fitzsimonds brought her denim crafts ranging from slippers and blankets to fashionable jackets.

Carol Hofferd proudly displayed her stained glass items that glittered attractively in the summer sun.

Cynthia Marchewka, Gwen Sturm and Jill Cooper displayed paper crafts, kitting, sewing, dish clothes and scrubbies and tile works.

A unique vendor was that of young entrepreneurs Taylor Anhorn, Grade 8, Jenna Gall, Grade 7 and Michelle Gall, Grade 7. The young women formed a business called The Majaytay, a combination of their three names. Besides offering a selection of delectable cookies and beverages, the trio also offered friendships bracelets handmade by Taylor.

Once again, a large selection of carpet remnants were available at reduced prices.

Precious Paws Doggie Treats is a unique pet product supplier operated by R&J Sauve of Battleford. The most popular items appeared to be the homemade healthy doggy treats.

Norm Wicks of Speers offered homemade key holders using nameplates from numerous models of vehicles.

Sharona Sendecki offered nail treatment packages as an introductory promotion for her Prairie Wind Gel Nails business.

Leona and Cynthia Tetz operated their Over the Hill Creations consisting of racks upon racks of handmade jewelry.

Four authors were available for book signing opportunities. Wes Funk author of Cherry Blossom and Dead Rock Stars, Xander Richards author of Coast: An Act of Burial, Donna Miller author of Black Fury: Help Me, I'm Naked: Book One, and Todd Devonshire, author of Rink Burgers.

Local Mayfair artist Buck Scotton displayed his collection of framed acrylics.

Bill Hiebert of Hafford displayed his wood burning items and soap stone carvings.

Woody and Judy of Hafford once again pleased the customers with his unique coin jewelry collection.

Local musical and dance performers kept the audience entertained all afternoon. A dunk tank, children's fun zone, raffle table and youth talent showcase was held throughout the afternoon. The evening concluded with an outdoor dance and firework display.

It was an enjoyable day full of sunshine, food, entertainment and socializing.
