The SLC organized an ice cream float day Friday. Students enjoyed several flavours of pop and ice cream. Wednesday, they hosted Hawaiian Day. The Grade 2 and 3 class and the Grade 4 and 5 class are really close in the competition for winning a pizza lunch. The Hawaiian Day may have been the deciding factor.

The Grade 8s have been working hard in health class. They have been learning about what it might be like to have to go without food. It is common for schools to focus on a plan to get kids to be healthily, eat right and exercise but what about learning how to feed your body in case your options become limited? Students shouldlearn about what others their age may be going through in different parts of the province, country or world. The Grade 8 teacher, Miss. Jordan, had been introduced to the idea when teaching at another school and saw the profound impact it could make on students and the school. The students did research on different famines around the world, how it affects people and communities. They studied journals, songs, poems, articles, and photos. During a 24-hour "famine" they keep a journal of their thoughts, emotions and how they felt physically. When the "famine" ended theyparticipated in a healthy group breakfast and started thinking about how they wanted to present their final project about their experience. Studentswere allowed to present the final piece however they liked.

We were thrilled to have Nate Starycki back at school for a few mornings. Below is a letter that was written to the school from Nate and his family:

Maymont Community and Maymont Central School,

On behalf of Nate, Dane, Deagan and I, we wanted to extend an overwhelming huge thank you to the community of Maymont as well as Maymont Central School. Your support has been nothing short of amazing. Your generosity brings my family to tears.

We've been fighting this battle since Nate has been born and not a week goes by that someone doesn't check in to see how we're doing or what they can do to help.

Our tears are real, it does not get easier and we could not have been this strong or handled it this well if it weren't for all of you.

Thank you so much for all your kindness, worries, prayers, help around the farm, help with our other son Deagan, and your overwhelming donations.

Thank you to the Mrs. Thompson's class for all the letters sent, the cards made, the FaceTiming to keep Nate feeling special. Thank you to Ryan Nickell and his class as well as all who participated in the Christmas video for Nate. He must have watched it 20 times! :)

Nate is home again and happy. This won't be his last admission, but we will enjoy every minute of being home while we can, I assure you!

Thank you all once again.

The Starycki Family

We sure hope to see more of Nate around the school.
