Battlefords First Nations Joint Board - Sakewew High School - received a $7,500 Creative Partnerships Explorations Grant to promote active living, encourage creative expression through movement and increase daily activity in schools.

The school also received an $8,000 TreatySmarts grant to ask, "Are respectful relationships between cultures formed when we share our stories?" by having students partner through multidisciplinary arts to learn about treaty concepts, respect and relationships.

Creative Partnerships grants give communities, businesses, schools and other organizations a range of opportunities to partner with artists and tap the creativity of the province.

The TreatySmarts initiative is part of ArtsSmarts Saskatchewan, which offers arts and education grants to schools, artists and community partnerships for innovative projects in any art form that brings kindergarten to Grade 12 students together.

Cando Community School received a $7,500 Arts Smarts grant to provide students with an opportunity to participate in and view dance as a performance and creative art form, an educational tool and recreational activity.

Floyd Favel received a $5,000 Art Venture Project Grant to present a First Nations version of Antigone, written by Deanne Kasokeo.

The arts board's mission is to cultivate an environment in which the arts thrive for the benefit of everyone in Saskatchewan. It serves the people of the province through programs and activities designed to build a strong and vibrant arts sector. For more information, visit www.artsboard.sk.ca.
