Artists join in anniversary celebration

Grad season has come and gone, the kids are out of school. Spring flowers have bloomed and fruit trees are fruiting, summer is really here. Tornados and flooding have been the topic of conversation amongst most these days, but life does go on.

Artists from Paynton and other communities were invited to take part in Cut Knife's 100th anniversary celebrations June 30.

Grad season has come and gone, the kids are out of school. Spring flowers have bloomed and fruit trees are fruiting, summer is really here. Tornados and flooding have been the topic of conversation amongst most these days, but life does go on.

Paynton has been bustling with the sounds of lawn mowers and motor bikes, ATVs and kids in the skate park. Many new faces are seen around town checking out the farmers' market on Tuesdays at the arena. Vendors from all over the village and RM come together from 4 - 6 p.m. Tuesdays to share their art and crafts, ceramics and books, baking and even a few things from the garden.

Kara Wakefield sends along her yummy jams and jellies, which go great with Mariann Jones' home made bread and buns. The art of Mariann Taubensee and Ellery Russell is set up in the market as well. It was also on show at the Cut Knife Centennial Culture Walk June 30. As a part of the celebrations, the town wanted to show off local talent, inviting people from neighbouring communities and farms to participate inCut Knife's 100th birthday.

Along with art from Paynton, Ric Pollock of Arlee with his up-cycled metal sculpture, Mary Ramsay showed her paintings and Marcella Pederson was there with her various art and crafts along with fresh honey from her apiary. Sausage and pies, baking and sweets, popcorn and many more vendors took part in the festivities.

Cut Knife had a mural painted for the big day, headed by Marjorie Verleun. It is a representation of the town and depicts it well. Located on the south side of the bowling alley,Cut Knife's newmural spans almost the full length of the building. Make sure to check it out next time you are in Cut Knife.
