Art auction for Creative Kids and KidSport

The North Battleford Bonaventure Lions Club will once again host an art auction at the Chapel Gallery, this year in support of Creative Kids and Kid Sport, March 8.

The North Battleford Bonaventure Lions Club will once again host an art auction at the Chapel Gallery, this year in support of Creative Kids and Kid Sport, March 8.

Creative Kids provides financial assistance for children in music lessons, art, drama or dance, with a mission to increase participation by children youth in creative activities and help families overcome financial or social barriers that prevent or limit participation in creative endeavours.

KidSport is a similar organization based around sport, which provides support to children in order to remove the financial barriers that might keep them from playing an organized sport.

The Bonaventure Lions chose to fundraise for the two organizations after a presentation from Rob Rongve and Heath Gabruch. As Bonaventure Lions president June Newsham explained, "We tend to take their recommendations very seriously because they're serious supporters of our art auction year after year.

"We're always concerned in the community with youth not getting into crime and having things to do. If they can't afford to take part in constructive activities, they take part in destructive activities."

The auctions, which usually raise between $10,000 and $11,000, will see 30 submissions this year from local artists and artists across Saskatchewan. The artists themselves are chosen by a committee, and Newsham mentioned Battleford artist Dean Bauche is often the best seller.

To purchase tickets to the auction, contact Bonaventure Lions president June Newsham at 445-3337, Ellie Mae at 445-6621 or Lucy at 446-4332. For more information about Creative Kids, visit www.creativekidssask.ca. For more information about KidSport, visit www.kidsport.ca/sk.
