School classes began again Monday and we hope all the young people enjoyed their Easter holiday time. The snow is well on the way to being gone. During this Easter holiday time could be spent making snowmen and snowballs!
Sunday, the Waseca Community Centre Committee sponsored a potluck supper. This was followed by an informative meeting. Only a small crowd enjoyed the delicious supper. During the annual meeting that followed a number of topics were discussed. The annual walkathon, which this year will be co-sponsored by the centre committee and the playground committee, was discussed and organized. Pledge sheets have been available and it appears as though there will be many walkers. The lunch that follows the walk was organized as well. May 5 is the date for this event.
The secretary-treasurer reported that the centre had been well-used during the past year so the financial position of the centre was favourable.
Did you know that language scholars will tell you English is a Germanic language of the Indo-European family that has its roots in Latin, Danish and Norse among other tongues? However English is a vibrant living language whose origins cannot be fully understood merely through studying its predecessors. One reason is the presence of idioms in day-to-day speech. These are some examples: blockbuster, fall off the wagon, cakewalk, chip on his shoulder, no dice, pipe dream, know the ropes and southpaw.
