This weekend certainly brought out more fishermen and even some out of town snowmobilers. At this point we still have snow-not something we usually worry about at the beginning of February.
According to local fishermen, fishing has slowed down a bit. Gaining access to the ice can also be a bit of a challenge. A pressure ridge on the Shady Bay side is causing people to use the Meeting Lake Regional Park accesses or the access at the cove. Ice fishing is all about fun but keep safe out there as well.
January and February are the months for annual meetings and re-organizational meetings. In January the Rabbit Lake Rec Centre held its annual meeting and elected its slate of officers for the next year. The president is Lesley Salisbury, secretary is Crystal Wright, and treasurer is Curtis McNabb. Once again volunteers make it happen.
The Rabbit Lake Community Hall board held its annual meeting Feb. 2. Eric Kuffert's and Dave Martens's terms expired and, according to the constitution, they are not able to serve as they have both completed three consecutive three-year terms. That is nine years of volunteer service to the hall for both of these men and I think that is something to comment upon. Elected to the hall board are Don Unger and Alan Laughlin. Alan Laughlin was elected as chairperson, Chrissy Moore as vice-chair and Shelly Laughlin was appointed secretary-treasurer. Shelly will be responsible to taking bookings for the hall this year.
Usually the Rabbit Lake branch of the Lakeland Library hosts the annual Valentine's Day supper but this year it will be held at the Rabbit Lake Hotel. Tickets are available at the hotel.
The Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association is busy preparing for the March 3 Snow Machine Rally. "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" Tickets are on sale in several locations. The profits from this event along with the annual Carlton Trail Jamboree are funnelled back to the various community organizations so supporting this event supports everyone.
