The Battlefords Art Club has a long history of supporting visual arts in the community. It promotes exhibits of local work with the aim of encouraging its members in developing their potential for creating satisfying artwork in any medium. The club also encourages visits by artists from elsewhere and promotes a variety of workshops. The club meets regularly Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Don Ross Centre and new members are always welcome.

Evelyn Campbell began painting in 1987 under the direction of Nora Krake, using oil as the medium. She joined the Battlefords Art Club shortly after, and has since taken instruction from Kevin Quilan and Dean Bauche, among others. She painted the backdrops for the taxidermist work in the Battlefords Wildlife Federation Nature Centre in the 2000. In the 2002 she decorated a tickle trunk for the Battlefords Community Players. She drew four backdrops for the Music Mix Studio production of Sound of Music and the art club members painted them.

Evelyn has entered paintings in the Territorial Days competitions several times and has received ribbons including Best of Show and Best of Division.

In 2004 she moved to St. Albert, Alta. and lived there for three years, becoming a member of the St. Albert Painters' Guild and the Society of Western Canadian Artists. Her paintings were critiqued many times.

In 2005 she had the privilege of painting two panels on the centennial mural "Buffalo Twins" which commemorates the joint centennials of Saskatchewan and Alberta and is now located on the outside of the Vic Juba Building in Lloydminster. The two panels that she was responsible for are No. 8 and No. 67 that can be seen at www.muralmosaic.com.

Evelyn enjoys working with acrylic, oil, watercolor and pastel, on paper, canvas, board, fabric and her subject matter ranges from scenery, birds, animals and buildings to portraits. In June of 2014 she had the pleasure of painting children's faces at the Western Development Museum. Art, singing and drama are her life's passions.

Art Notes

By Evelyn Campbell

Tuesday was a beautiful summer day and approximately a dozen members of the Battlefords Art Club gathered together to paint in different media.

Some are trying to get ready for the art show and sale July 26 and 27 at the Meota Sailing Club building.

There will be an open exhibition July 26 to Sept. 3 in The Chapel Gallery for gallery members.

There are many lovely flowers and with green trees and gorgeous scenery we have a lot to draw and paint from.

Take a drive out to the lake and take in our show and have a great summer everyone!
