It was interesting to see a small flock (about 10) of purple finches at the feeders this week. They are beautiful, busy little birds so it was a pleasure to have them around for a few days.
The death of Mary Chisholm on the weekend brought many memories back to residents and former residents of this district. Although she grew up close to Waseca, the daughter of pioneers Mike and Eiliza Donovan, she was well known in the surrounding area. She came to Forest Bank to teach for the school year 1940-41. Her pupils have fond memories of her, her kindness and her cheerful personality. Mary also spent time with the young people of the district, travelling to dances with them, and enjoying the skating rink, which was close to the school. Mary enjoyed a visit to Forest Bank in 2009 when she was invited to participate in a celebration which featured the 102nd anniversary of St. Paul'the formation of the Forest Bank School District.
Many visits with Mary were enjoyed by the people of the district as she made her home with her husband Roy Chisholm and their family close to Maidstone.
We extend our sympathy to her children, Helen, Michael and Ian, and their families.
Florence Pike was pleased to have a visit from her granddaughter, Vanessa Weber of Goodsoil and her children Kelsey, Mya, Alicia and Laney on the weekend. Vanessa and children dropped in on the way back to Goodsoil after visiting a friend in Maple Creek.
Vanessa is the daughter of Wayne and Jane Pike of Meadow Lake.
