Tonight and tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 12 are the last of three nights of auditions being held by the Battlefords Community Players. Interestingly, they are looking for five women, three men and a dog for the comedy they are casting. They also need people for any number of jobs from lighting and sound to costuming, construction and set decoration. Stop by their new home at 102-26th St. W. in Battleford at 7:30 p.m. if you would like to get involved. You may have noticed in the June 6 Regional Optimist that the players are planning to expand their opportunities by holding in-house performances as well throughout this coming season, so if you've ever had a hankering to get into show business, now's the time to get started!

Later in the week, Thursday, June 13, anyone who wants to know more about living with Parkinson's Disease should attend the event at the North Battleford Library. It starts at 4 p.m.

This week, get prepared for a busy weekend, Saturday in particular.

First out of the gate on Saturday, June 15 is the Spring Trade Show being held at the Royal Canadian Legion on main street in Battleford. It will start at 8 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. The poster advertises lots of products to choose from and "soooo much more!" A bonus is they will be serving coffee, tea, burgers, chili and hotdogs. Everyone is welcome and the admission is free.

Not long after the trade show gets started, the Battlefords Humane Society's 2013 Strut Your Mutt! gets underway. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. It's a great fundraiser for the shelter, so get your pledge sheets at Lakeland Veterinary Services, Nufloors or the shelter and sign up all your friends to sponsor you and your "mutt." Last year, registrations alone raised $3,000 and, if you haven't heard, the society is determinedly working toward a new building.

Saturday is also Family Day at the Western Development Museum. It will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. Look for Ferris wheel rides, the Balloon Guy, a dog show, face painting, jungle gyms, fire truck and train rides, a water park and a museum scavenger hunt.
