Family and friends gathered at the Maymont Seniors' Centre Jan. 20 to celebrate the 89th birthday of Tom Caldwell. Entertainment was provided by Tom Caldwell, Mel Deagnon, Don Wakelin and Raymond Seib. Happy birthday, Tom, and many more.
Tom has great lungs as most of you will know. He plays his harmonica like he's a young 50-year-old. You could tell how good those lungs are when he blew out all the candles with one blow.
And also birthday wishes to a dear friend, Jon Sloan. A surprise party was held Jan. 19 for Jon's 65th birthday. Just think, Jon. At the end of February, you'll have two extra cheques in your pocket.
This poem is for both Jon and Tom: Another Year: We're wishing you another year / Of laughter, joy and fun, / Surprises, love and happiness / And when your birthday's done, / We hope you feel deep in your heart, / As your birthdays come and go, / How very much you mean to us / More than you can know.
Mark Feb. 15 on your calendar. The Maymont Seniors' Centre Valentine's jam and potluck will be held at 5:30 p.m. with door prizes, great music and a chance to win a beautiful cubic zirconia ring. Tickets will be available that night and you have to be there to be able to win this ring. It's a Saturday night, date night. Bring your sweetie. It will make up for anyone who forgot about Valentine's Day Feb. 14.
Ruddell potluck and card night was held Jan. 23 in the Ruddell Hall. Forty people enjoyed the potluck supper and some stayed for the card games after the supper.
We all enjoyed the company of Leonard Voegeli's daughters who were visiting from Salt Spring Island, Nadine Fraser and Erica Brooke.
Best wishes to Wendy Sherlock who hung up her nurse's hat Jan 22. I'm sure they'll miss you, Wendy, but Bill will enjoy you being home.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Richard Clayton who passed away Jan. 23.
