28 buckets of cold water douses school principal

Principal Dean Broughton accepted the ASL ice bucket challenge Sept. 16 and had said that, for every $10 the students raised, he would allow one bucket to be dumped on him.

Principal Dean Broughton accepted the ASL ice bucket challenge Sept. 16 and had said that, for every $10 the students raised, he would allow one bucket to be dumped on him. The students and staff took up the challenge and raised $282, so 28 buckets of ice cold water was dumped on Dean Sept. 16.

Borden School held their Terry Fox Run Sept. 17. Everyone gathered in the gym at 9 a.m. while SRC rep Dallas Burnett told of the history of Terry Fox and SLC rep Emma Prescesky told of the Terry Fox Foundation and how much money has been raised for cancer since the run started.

The students left, with the kindergarten and Grade 1s paired with an older student or sibling, and walked or ran the one mile of the Tiger Lily Trail east of the school. When they arrived back, they received a banana and a chocolate milk.

The Borden Threshermen's Club were able to binder the field of bearded wheat Sept. 20 in preparation for their Threshing Day Sept. 27. The McCormick Deering binder was pulled by a four-hitch team of blacks - Travis Waldner's Percherons and Ken Crush's Percheron-cross team. Ken and Travis took turns driving the four-hitch. Helping to stook were Frank Block, Stu Walton, Ruben Rempel, Brian Gabrysh, Cyril Saunders, Ken Crush and Jodi, Travis's partner.

Threshing Day Sept. 27 starts with gates opening at 10 a.m., the parade at noon, cook car open for soup, bread and beverages; horse-drawn events, threshing at 2 p.m., blacksmithing by farrier Melissa Saunder and music at the site and at the seniors' room. The museum will be open from 3 - 7 p.m. Beef supper in the community centre from 5 - 7 p.m.; doors open at 4:15 p.m. for buying tickets in the seniors' room, east door.

Borden Dance Club started lessons Sept. 15, with 48 students registered, taking classes with Miss Shanna and Miss Shelby. Classes taught are ballet, hip-hop, tap, lyrical, jazz and musical theatre.
