2013 UCHS graduate reaps the rewards of his hard work

Jonathan Neigum, a graduate of Unity Composite High School this past June, has had his hard work pay off with big dollars, and recognition.

Jonathan Neigum, a graduate of Unity Composite High School this past June, has had his hard work pay off with big dollars, and recognition.

Neigum was first awarded a number of local scholarships at the graduation ceremonies: Our Ladies of the Prairies Scholarship $1,000, Tommy Rutherford Scholarship $1,000, Dr. Robert Knowles Scholarship $2,000, Cantelon Scholarship $900 and Knights of Columbus Bursary $500.

In addition to these awards given at graduation ceremonies, Neigum has also received provincial and national awards. Provincially, he was awarded Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship $1,000, Gerry McCudden Memorial Scholarship $950, Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship $2,000 and the Saskatchewan General Proficiency Award $400. He was a finalist for the Loran provincial scholarship.

Nationally, Neigum has been awarded Canadian Association of Principals Student Leadership Award, Honorable Mention; Miller Thompson Scholarship $3,000 and Monsanto Opportunity Scholarship $1,500.

From the University of Saskatchewan, Neigum received a Greystone Scholarship valued at $3,000. He also received a U of S entrance award of $16,200. And, as a reward for his academic excellence, Jonathan received $24,000 from the U of S Edwards School of Business, which is the undergraduate award for the student entering the school of business with the highest academic mark.

During his time at UCHS, Neigum was a favourite actor in the school's drama program, he tutored younger students, he was part of the school concession volunteer workers, he was a member of the SADD group, and of the school community council. He also was an active curler and volunteered as instructor of the junior curling program at the local curling club.

Neigum had also won the Governor General's Award with an average of 98 per cent overall in high school. This award was presented at graduation ceremonies. He delivered the valedictory address at the 2013 graduation ceremonies.

UCHS principal Maureen Robertson and vice-principal Ruth Cey said, "Jonathan is an exemplary model of the three beliefs at UCHS. His dedication, skills and work ethic have opened opportunities for a successful future. We are very proud of Jonathan."

Neigum is the son of John and Deb Neigum of Unity. He is attending the Edwards School of Business to start his studies towards a bachelor of commerce degree. He plans to specialize either in marketing or business finance.
