Congratulations to Lillian Cornell on reaching her 111th birthday on Aug. 21. I hear her picture was on the front page of the Saskatoon Star Phoenix and she had a television interview. What a remarkable person she truly is. She attended a party at the summer home of her daughter Lou Tait and her son, in Meota, with a few guests.
There has been more mowing done out at the cemetery. What a big job that is. Any time a person has time to go out and do a little bit, it really helps. Before one section is finished being cut, the first part that was cut is showing new growth with the rains and sun we’ve had.Â
Robert and Lanette St. Amant are away on a trip to Iceland for a marathon for Robert to take part in, so hope for a report next week. Living costs there are pretty high.
The northern lights have been most spectacular about three o’clock in the morning, they tell me. My kids at Carstairs were up at 3 a.m. and all residents were wakened to witness the show. One fellow on FB said he was called out to work at 3 a.m. but when he saw the light show, he didn’t mind at all, just beautiful.
Out at the golf course is the men’s night on Sept. 1, sponsored by SaskTel. On Sept. 9 is the wind-up for the ladies with the grand prize by Zeke’s Jewellers.Â
Visiting their sister-in-law Beulah Corbeil in Meota from Edmonton was Alice Kostuck, and staying overnight with her were Roland’s other sisters, Jeannine Corbeil from Saskatoon, Sister Evelyn Corbeil from Prince Albert and Therese Bossaer from North Battleford. How wonderful to have so many family members together at once. Â
The hummingbirds are still around but will be leaving soon. There is so much feed available with all the flowers, they should be well stocked up for their long flight south. They are so pretty to watch with the sun shining on their green backs and wings. Anywhere you walk you are bound to see some.
Gwen has had nobody phone re "boat rides for seniors." Come on, someone must have a boat and the time for such an adventure, and know that it would be appreciated so much. Call her to make arrangements and for details.
Duplicate bridge was played Aug. 18 with top scores by Eric Callbeck and Maureen Campbell. Second high were Robert Iverson and Joyce Antoine and third were Ray and Marnie Davie. There were 22 players out for another full evening of bridge.
An evening of contract bridge was played Aug. 24 at the Do Drop In when top score went to Warren Iverson and second to Robert Iverson.
