HUDSON BAY – The Wally Dawyduk arena in Hudson Bay is seeing skating on the ice for the first time since their ice plant went down in February this year.
On Feb. 5, the chiller at the Hudson Bay arena, one of the main components of an ice plant, broke down and it ended the ice season early for Hudson Bay. For more on how the ice plant broke, click here
Since then, Amanda Purves spoke to Â鶹´«Ã½AV.ca and said, “The new equipment arrived in a timely fashion, and installation of the new equipment went fairly smooth. We did have a few issues upon startup, but the recreation staff officially started making ice on July 17th."
Purves said the price will be just shy of of $600,000. Stevenson Industrial Refrigeration is doing the installation. Everything is complete. The arena is available for skating. “We are introducing a slow start for this week and next week will be open Monday to Friday, from 9-4, with the exception of private rentals.”

The hockey school is scheduled for Aug. 12-16, and it is full. “We are looking forward to a jam packed week of fun with Director Glen Gulutzan, assistant coach of the Edmonton Oilers."
“We are very excited to be back up and running in time for our Annual Summer Hockey School. Kids and adults alike are very happy to be returning to the rink and getting back on home ice,” said Purves.
