NIPAWIN – The Town of Nipawin will soon have an operational heliport to help transport patients to and from the hospital in events of emergency. The Twin Lakes District Planning Commission spearheaded the heliport project.
Nipawin council approved $27,107 which is 50 per cent of the final invoiced costs for the heliport. The cash shortfall to complete the project was $54,214.79. The remaining portion will be paid by the RM of Torch Riverat 25 per cent and the RM of Nipawin at 25 per cent.
Nipawin administration has received notification that Transport Canada is granting the Civil Aviation Heliport certificate so it can begin operation. Michelle Sorenson, Nipawin CAO, said, “We are just waiting on a few final items, and the heliport will be ready for use. This is expected any day.”
The Town of Nipawin and the Rural Municipalities of Torch River and Nipawin have proposed that the three municipalities cover this shortfall on a shared basis rather than collecting small amounts from all nine Twin Lakes District Planning Commission partners as per the original resolution. The three municipalities would be paid back for the final invoices from the other partnering RMs and municipalities.
