HUMBOLDT  -  The Humboldt and District Musuem is planning a local writers series event on Feb. 5 and a youth night on Feb. 12.

Any local writers, essayists, poets, and those who simply love to tinker with the written word are invited to attend.

The Humboldt & District Gallery is excited to announce their third annual Local Writer Series and this year they are bringing back an old favourite – Poetry Slam, to be held on Jan 23.

All of these events will take place under the stunning canopy of butterflies that will be on display at the gallery until Feb. 22, states a Humboldt and District Gallery news release.

“Everyone who enjoys trying to find just the right word is invited to sign up for our beginner-friendly Poetry Slam. All participants will be given three fun prompts to inspire them – a historical artefact related to Humboldt local history, a very random word, and three seconds of intro music to set the vibe – as well as 45 minutes to write whatever inspires you. After the 45 minutes is up, writers are invited to share their work,” said Rachel Wormsbecher, Museum Supervisor.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, the museum will host a traditional Local Writers Night where participants have 10 minutes to read original work. Any local writers who have not yet read at a Local Writers Night over the past two years are encouraged to sign up. Any writers who would like to return and read a new piece are encouraged to sign up, but past readers will be chosen randomly on Feb.1 if there are still any open spots left.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the museum will be hosting their third youth writers night at the gallery. Budding writers aged 12 to 17 are invited to read a piece of original material. Parental consent forms are available at the museum.

For anyone who would like to sign up to read or for the Poetry Slam, call 306-682-5226 or email: [email protected].
