MELFORT — The City of Melfort and the union representing its workers have signed a new contract.
All CUPE 777 union employees, along with out of scope employees, will see an increase of three per cent in 2024, four per cent in 2025 and 3.5 per cent in 2026.
Adam Homes, Melfort's city manager said to SASKTODAY.ca, “Supplemental pay was implemented into the collective agreement for employees with specialized certifications, such as having a water distribution certification.”
Homes said the new agreement updates and clarifies many articles to allow for the employer and the employees to foster a harmonious working relationship. He said this allows any issues to be addressed promptly and amicably, minimizing disruptions to daily operations.
“We are pleased with the results of the respectful and collaborative approach that both the union and management took for this round of negotiations. By working together, we were able to find common ground, address concerns, and cooperate to find solutions.”
The previous collective bargaining agreement between the City of Melfort and CUPE 777 expired on Dec. 31, 2023. On Jan. 11 a memorandum of agreement was presented and ratified by membership of CUPE 777. Melfort council approved the new agreement retroactively at their Feb. 12 council meeting.
CUPE 777's membership has approximately 40 full time equivalent employees.
