BJORKDALE — The Skate with the Trojans was held on Feb. 15 at the Bjorkdale skating rink.
It was a well attended by all the local kids. Coach Dennis Kubat, who grew up and played hockey in Bjorkdale as a child, showed the kids how the Trojans practiced, played lots of fun games and got everyone involved. They played a mini scrimmage at the end and the kids left the ice with many smiles. The Tisdale Trojans also gave each child a free admission into any of their remaining home games.
The Bjorkdale school curlers were at NESSAC on Feb. 8-9 for senior curling and Feb. 13 for junior curling.
The juniors curled in Tisdale and the Seniors was held in Nipawin. The Senior team, coached by Kim Slade, skipped by Nolan Horn, third – Colton Babcok, 2nd -James van Hasstert, and lead Joseph Alderman. They lost their first game against Melfort 1, won their second game against Melfort 2 and lost their final game against Melfort 1. They finished second overall and will be attending regionals on March 3 in Prince Albert.
Senior girls, coached by Kim Slade is skipped by Grace Mohr, third – Austyn Schpansky, second – Gabriella Vecchio lost their first game against Choiceland, won their second game against Arborfield and lost their 3rd game against Carrot River. The Junior mixed team coached by Joanne Schmitt is skipped by Gabriella Vecchio, third – Garrett Babcock, second - Remy Sirois and lead Rowan Currey. They lost their first game against Naicam, won their second game against Tisdale, and won their third game against Carrot River. They finished as the “B” side champions.
The Bjorkdale School hosted a Telemiracle Tea and bake sale on Tuesday, Feb. 14 for the community. The elementary students performed songs and plays for the crowd and the school raised close to $500 for Telemiracle. The draw for the Eileen Moen Legacy fund quilt was also done at the tea and Judi Wearing was the winner. This fundraiser made $1000 towards local scholarships for kids who show community spirit and playground improvements. Linda Hipkins and Kim Kehrig made the quilt.
The kids will be off from school for February break and will be back in classes on Feb. 27.
