BJORKDALE — The Rural Municipality of Bjorkdale No. 426 had a ratepayers meeting on Thursday, April 6 at their newly constructed RM shop in Bjorkdale.
About 20 ratepayers were in attendance along with their staff and councillors. The meeting was moderated by Niall Campbell. The meeting lasted about an hour and 15 minutes. Concerns brought up were regarding the Crooked River hall, assessment values of properties, cleaning up lots and pest control in Crooked River, and the new process with the building permits and the building inspector when people are building a new home. Please contact the RM office before proceeding with any new buildings to ensure you have all the required steps in place.
Reeve Glen Clarke updated the crowd about the bridges and culverts that have been replaced in 2022 and the projects they hope to do in the future. He also talked about dust control and about the heavy haul roads. Administrator Cherie Hudon gave an update on current employment opportunities at Marean Lake and Barrier Ford for a maintenance position. Barrier Ford will also see a new playground structure going up in 2023. Coffee, tea and cookies were served compliments of the RM and people were able to take a peak at the RM shop
The Marean Lake Advisory committee will be holding an election electronically from April 17 to 26 for a new member of the board. Sheila Broadfoot, medical office assistant; Daryl Knacksstedt, retired; Dave Peet, regional director; and Ardel Skaalrud, truck driver are the four candidates running.
Notice was given for the Shand Creek Conservation and Development #23 will be having their Annual General Meeting at Quilly's Community Place (formerly the elementary school) in Porcupine on Wednesday, April 19 at 8 p.m.
The assessment roll is currently open for the Village of Bjorkdale and those wishing to appeal their assessment have until May 1. The village office is open Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 8:30 – 4:00 p.m.
