BJORKDALE — Two locals who call Bjorkdale home were awarded some high recognition.
Lana Woulfe and Peggy Looby were recognized for outstanding volunteerism in Saskatchewan on Friday, Dec. 2 in Kelvington at a formal ceremony which included MLA Hugh Nerlien and Honourable Tim McLeod, Provincial Secretary for the Provincial Government of Saskatchewan.
Peggy Looby is a pillar in the community of Bjorkdale and continues to help and volunteer. She has been an avid volunteer in the Bjorkdale community choir, has helped with the Bjorkdale Centennial committee and history books. She has also been a committed volunteer to the Legion and helps with the poppy campaign annually.
Lana has worked the past 20 years fighting to fundraise efforts for CF research. She credits friend’s, family and her community for supporting their efforts in our fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Over the years we have had many successful CF pancake breakfasts, CF golf tournaments, CF walks and CF football pools. We can not express how much everyone’s help in our fight means to not only our family but other families who are fighting CF. There have been many advances over the past years but until we have a cure for CF we will keep fighting.
The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Saskatchewan) was created to celebrate the 70th anniversary year of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession to the Throne, which began on February 6, 2022. The medal is a tangible way for the province of Saskatchewan to honour Her Majesty for her service to Canada. A total of 7,000 medals will be awarded at ceremonies held throughout the province during the Platinum Jubilee year. The medal program will be the focus of the Government of Saskatchewan Jubilee year commemorations.
The Little Valley Playschool also just completed their 3rd annual online auction and this year the proceeds will be split between the playschool and the Bjorkdale skating rink. The grand total made was $5,320. The playschool will receive $2,660 and the skating rink will receive $2,660. The Little Valley Playschool and the Bjorkdale skating rink board would like to thank all the people who donated and made this online auction a success.
