BJORKDALE — The Village of Bjorkdale received good news being approved for a $5,000 Community Initiatives grant for the Bjorkdale After School program.
This grant helps cover the costs for the Kids in the Kitchen program, wages for the Friday Fun skates, art with Beth, Easter egg decorating and so many more activities for children in Bjorkdale to take part in. This program would not be able to run without the CIF funding.
The Bjorkdale afterschool program purchased cross-country skis, which are available to the community to use free of charge. Please contact the school to book a time to book out the skis. A deposit cheque must be left in order to take out the skies. The trail has been groomed and the entrance is on the west side of town at the end of Railway Avenue.
The Bjorkdale Curling Club hosted their annual Farmers Bonspiel on Jan. 19 and 20. Austin Hamel’s rink won with Scott Spedding, Casey Horn and Veronica Nakonieczny. The curling rink saw 6 teams enter and had a great weekend of curling. The next bonspiel will be the ladies on Feb. 2 and 3. Get your teams entered by contacting Vern Moen or Marty Horn.
The Bjorkdale School saw its doors close on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and Monday, Jan. 22 due to the ongoing strike action. The North East School Division will keep parents informed through email and Edsby.
The Bjorkdale under 11 team played against La Ronge on Saturday, Jan. 20. The team is still waiting to get their first win of the season.
