MELFORT – The Marguerite Riel Centre (MRC) has received a grant through Canada Heritage to do a project for Truth and Reconciliation Day.
The MRC are looking for approximately eight artists, which can be a group as well, to each paint their own mural on a 4x8 panel. These panels will be installed on the outside of the MRC. This phase of the project and murals will need to be completed no later than Sept. 24.
The individual murals must increase awareness and commemorate National Truth and Reconciliation Day and/or the history and legacy of residential schools, honour children who did not return home, survivors, their families and communities, and provide an opportunity for survivors, families and communities to share their stories and advance inter-generational healing and reconciliation.
The MRC is looking at needing eight murals. Artists will be renumerated for their work at a flat rate per mural, groups choosing to work together will share that amount amongst the group. The need is urgent as the unveiling of the murals is scheduled for Oct. 5.
