GERMAN: William "Bill"

The death of Mr. William "Bill" German, 55 years of Lanigan, occurred on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Lanigan Hospital. Bill was born on June 29, 1958 in North Battleford to John and Helen (nee Krelow) German. He grew up and received his education at Rabbit Lake. Bill began farming and also working for Pioneer Grain in Glenbush. He met Karen Schreiner at his sister's wedding and they were married in Annaheim on June 23, 1984. They spent three years living in LeRoy and then moved to Lanigan. In 1990, Bill began a career at Pound Maker which continued until the present. He loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing and camping trips with his family. Bill also enjoyed hunting, especially with Trevor and Dave. In his younger years, he was involved in a variety of sports, including hockey, broomball and curling. He was the main linesman at volleyball and could always be found supporting his children's many activities. Bill's garden was his special place where no one else was allowed. His green thumb produced a bounty of vegetables which he then processed each fall. He was an excellent cook, rarely using a recipe to make cabbage rolls, perogies, beet rolls, buns and much more. Bill had a quiet mannerism and was so very proud of his growing family, which included three little grandchildren to love. His family describe him as a big burly bear on the outside with a marshmallow center. Bill will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 29 years, Karen German of Lanigan; four children and three grandchildren: Amber Coppens (Ryan Currie) and her children Katheryn and Chayton of Humboldt, Trevor German of Lanigan, Traci (Chris) Bell and daughter Elisabeth of Humboldt, and Hayley German of Lanigan; his mother, Helen German of Spiritwood; three sisters and one brother: Emily German of Moose Jaw, Marie (Jack) Gervais and Sheila (Denis) Allchurch, all of Spiritwood, and Bob (Donna) German of Rabbit Lake; parents-in-law, Ron and Joan Schreiner of Annaheim; in-laws: Dianne (David) Schenn of Humboldt and Yvonne (Clint) Berscheid of Annaheim; and by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his father, John German. A Public Visitation was held on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and the Funeral Service was held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Both Services were held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Lanigan. Cremation followed with interment at a later date. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, 9 Lancaster Road, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 1M8. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
