KUNZ: Theodore William

February 3, 1923 - February 20, 2017

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Theodore William Kunz 94 years of Humboldt, formerly of Annaheim, on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Humboldt District Hospital. Theodore was born on February 3, 1923 in the Annaheim District, SK to William and Katherine (nee Nieman) Kunz. He obtained a grade eight education at Bunker Hill School. At the age of 19, Theodore began working as a cat operator in the RM of St. Peters. On October 19, 1948, he married the love of his life, Bernarda Knittig, in Annaheim. They built a small home in the same yard with Theodore’s parents and he began his much loved farming career. In 1950, Bernarda’s parents retired so Theodore and Bernarda moved to her parent’s home place and began their farming career. Theodore and Bernarda farmed in Annaheim area for 56 years. They worked side by side on the farm and raised their family there. They finally retired in 2008 and moved to Humboldt. Theodore loved all aspects of farming. He was the RM councillor starting in 1970 for 20 years. He also was the reeve for 5 years.  You could often find him cheering for his favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays. He was community minded and sat on the board as a school trustee and on the St. Mary’s Villa board. Theodore was a very spiritual man and devoted to his faith and a long term member of Knights of Columbus in Annaheim. He was very social, loved playing cards, and very involved in the community. Farming was his life.  Theodore found it hard not to be part of the daily routine after retirement.  He would head out to the farm any chance he had to help with cutting grass, picking potatoes or anything else that needed doing. For Theodore, his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the most important part of his life. Theodore will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his three children, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren: Glenn (Pat) Kunz of Annaheim and family; Corey (Olivia) Kunz and their children Arthur, Greta, and Ruby of Saskatoon; Regan Kunz and his children Carly and William of Melfort; Jeff (Kristen) Kunz and their children Darcie, Bailey, and Leah of Annaheim; Carol Kunz of Saskatoon; and Lorna (Greg) White of Saskatoon and family, Krista (Sterling) Fuchs and children Jackson and Ryder, Danielle White and Haleigh White, all of Saskatoon; brother Wilfred Kunz of Humboldt; sisters and brother-in-law Celestine Kunz, Kathy Kunz both of Humboldt and Harold Adams of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Katherine Kunz; wife Bernarda Kunz; brothers and sisters: Marcella (Melvin) Reiter, Norbert Kunz, and Alois Kunz; brothers and sisters-in-law: Madeline (Bill) Reinhart, Rosemary (Clarence) Stangel, Lucy Adams, Roman Knittig, and Irene Kunz. The Funeral Mass for Theodore will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor and Fr. Rudolph Novecosky OSB. Interment followed at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Annaheim.  Memorial Donations in Theodore’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Villa Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
