BERSCHEID - The family is very saddened to announce the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Sheila (nee Moorman) Berscheid, 74 years, of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson who passed away at Royal University Hospital on Sunday, August 5, 2012. Sheila was born on November 27, 1937 to Casper and Mary (nee Kalthoff) Moorman of Fulda. She obtained her education at the Fulda School. Shortly after school she married Lawrence Berscheid on October 10, 1955 at St. Augustine Church in Humboldt. They moved to Victoria, BC for seasonal employment and while there Sheila took her training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. The following year they returned to the Saskatchewan Prairies to begin developing their homestead in the Lake Lenore District, where they farmed together for 50 years. Sheila worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for many years. They were blessed with two sons, Russell and Curtis. Sheila always maintain a very well organized and meticulously; manicured yard. In order to keep a well neat home and yard we know that it is labor intensive. She always did things the hard way by pulling every weed by hand. Sheila had a soft spot for animals, from horses to cats and especially her favourite dog "Trixie". A true homemaker she loved gardening with a special "green thumb" which later she would turn into very delicious meals. As a family they travelled to Hudson Bay and Greenwater to participate in many snowmobile rallies. This continued into retirement where Lawrence and Sheila shared wonderful times watching snowmobile races on T.V. In her spare time she would crochet and made sure everyone had at least one or two afghans to keep them warm. In 2002 they retired to Humboldt. Sheila and her sister Valerie were very close they loved to play Kaiser and even competed in many tournaments around the country. Lawrence, Sheila, Valerie and Nap spent many hours together visiting, playing cards or going for drives. With Curtis taking over the family farm it made the transition to retirement a little easier. Lawrence discovered new talents and in the past few years he became a chef. Sheila didn't have any problems stepping aside from the kitchen to let him cook up wonderful dishes for her. Sheila was a very up front and honest person, you always knew where you stood with her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. She was very proud of her sons and their accomplishments and took pride and joy in visiting with them and their families. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. A kind, loving, caring gentle lady was the way her close family members knew her. Sheila will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Russell (Diane) Berscheid of Nashville, TN and family, John Glenn (Shara Carlin) of Calgary, AB and daughter, Emily Fonda and Kimberly (Dario) Piotto of Saskatoon and son Dante; and Curtis (Ella) Berscheid of Humboldt and family, Justin and Maya; one brother, Jim (Karen) Moorman of Fulda and brother-in-law, Nap Boutin of Humboldt; three sisters-in-law: Marie Berscheid of Weyburn; Matilda Pape of Humboldt and Josephine Berscheid of Saskatoon and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Casper and Mary Moorman; husband, Lawrence (December 2011); sister, Valerie Grieman - Boutin (October 2010); brother-in-law, John Grieman and nephew Ross Moorman; nine brothers and sisters-in-law: Margaret (Albert) Spengler, Anne (Tony) Yeager, Joseph Berscheid, Albert Berscheid, Sylvester Berscheid and Nikolas (Marcella) Berscheid.
