Rosemary STANGEL

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ROSEMARY STANGEL, formerly of Saskatoon and Annaheim, SK. Rosemary passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2011 in the Long Term Care Facility in Assiniboia, SK at the age of 88 years. Rosemary was born November 8, 1922 to Joseph and Anna Knittig on the Joseph Knittig farm near Annaheim. She worked as a housekeeper for nearby families in her early adult days. On June 21, 1943 she married Clarence Stangel in Annaheim and they began farming on a half section farm midway between Lake Lenore and Annaheim. It was a mixed farm. Rosemary thrived on all the domestic duties that such a farm offers. She was an avid gardener. She took great pride in growing a bountiful crop of potatoes, corn, peas, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage and much more. Of course all that garden produce was canned or frozen. Her cooking and baking ability were second to none. Rosemary was skilled in the use of a sewing machine and she enjoyed darning and knitting. Summer was her favorite time as it meant that berries were ripening. She enjoyed picking raspberries, strawberries, chokecherries, pincherries and Saskatoons. She loved to play cards but her favorite pastime was playing Bingo; Rosemary could play many cards with ease. One of her other interests was making scrubbers out of nylon mesh netting for cleaning pots and pans. For about 28 years Rosemary and Clarence wintered in Phoenix, Arizona. Shopping outings were frequent, especially to the Swap (a large flea market). She could often be seen negotiating with a seller, hoping to convince him/her to lower the price of an item. Rosemary is likely bargaining up there with some vendor at this very moment. Rosemary and Clarence retired to Saskatoon in 1976 and continued to be active. In 2005 they moved to Assiniboia where Rosemary resided in a personal care home. In 2009, she moved into the Long Term Care Facility and resided there until a stroke took her life. Rosemary is survived by her son Jim (Colette) Stangel of Assiniboia and their children; Beth (Glenn) Groskopf and children Sheldon, Kayla, Adam, Katie, Josh; Jamie (Shawna) and children Karley, Bailey; Tracey (Blaine Senchuk); her son Delmar Stangel (fiancee Eleanor Guskjolen) of Regina, SK and his children; Jesse (Tracy Carr); Debbie and daughter Maria; Lisa (Martin) Park; sisters Lucy (Harold) Adams, Bernarda (Ted) Kunz; brother-in-law Wilfred Kunz; sister-in-law Mary Stangel; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence (2007), daughter Mary Lou (1954); grandson Mark Stangel (1976); parents Joseph and Anna Knittig; sisters Madeline (William) Reinhart, Irene Kunz; brother Roman Knittig; brothers-in-law Adam Stangel, Alfred Stangel, Aldie Stangel, Edward Stangel, Raymond Stangel; sisters-in-law Kay Stangel, Grace (Art) Doyscher, Rosella (William) Schmidtz and Celestine (Leo) Doepker. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., at Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK, with Reverend Linda-Tomlinson Seebach officiant. A Graveside Service will be held at St. Ann's Cemetery, Annaheim, SK at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia & Gravelbourg.
