SCHIMNOSKY: Rosa "Rose"

September 10, 1920 – November 27, 2014

The passing of Rosa “Rose” (nee Warren) Schimnosky of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at her residence on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at the age of 94 years. Rose was born in Humboldt, SK on September 10, 1920 to Arthur and Barbara (nee Poth) Warren and grew up in the Carmel district where she attended Hillsley School. After her schooling, she went to work at local farms and later at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. During the war years, she met Tony Schimnosky and they were married on December 29, 1942 in Ladner, BC. While Tony was stationed there, Rose worked at Burns Ranch. After the war, they moved to Carmel, SK, where they lived for two years. In 1947, they moved to Toronto, ON where Rose worked as a housekeeper for A.M. Ramsay. In 1950, Tony and Rose returned to Saskatchewan and lived in various communities including Sanctuary, Conquest, Cupar and Elrose where they owned and operated grocery stores for which Rose kept the books. As well, they spent a year in Saskatoon where Tony sold real estate. In 1975, Tony and Rose settled in Humboldt where Rose continued to do the bookwork, this time for Tony’s piano tuning business. In 2001, Tony passed away, and in 2008, Rose moved to St. Mary’s Villa where she resided until her passing. Rose enjoyed gardening, quilt-making and sewing. She sewed her own dresses as well as for her daughters and granddaughters. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Rose will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ronald (Sandra) Schimnosky; Jacqueline Rowan; Iona (Wade) Culbert; Jennifer (Bruce) Paling; Sheila (Bob) Bignell; Priya Schimnosky; sons-in-law: Bob O’Hara and Wayne Chernick; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: George Warren, Simon (Marilyn) Warren, Mary Loroff, Agnes Hantke, Theresa Mons, Anne Zilkowsky, Myrna (Mark) Sieben, and Carol Sawicki; and by sister-in-law, Clara Warren. She was predeceased by her husband Tony Schimnosky; children: Patricia O’Hara, Murray Schimnosky and Marlene Chernick; son-in-law Bruce Rowan; granddaughter Laura Paling; great-granddaughter Brandi O’Hara; parents Arthur and Barbara (nee Poth) Warren; brother John Warren; sister-in-law Adeline Warren; brothers-in-law: Frank Loroff, Alfred Hantke, Jacob Mons, Frank Sawicki, and Tony Zilkowsky. The Funeral Mass for Rose was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Monday, December 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Rose’s life”. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Mary’s Villa Foundation. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
